Day 16: :iconnoneko:

The 16th day. Alright then!

Noneko is a bloody legend in my books, as I'm sure she is in many of yours too! Really, what's not to like about her work? The characters are fantastic, the artwork is really cool, and it has a really unique style about it! Her style is definitely really different from a lot of others that I've seen. It's got those heavy black outlines, and fantastic traditional colours and it's really something to behold. Her storytelling is unique too; the humour for instance. It is definitely funny, and I really like it, but there's something about it that makes it special and really sets it apart from say... Yin or Froodals. In a lot of ways the artwork and dialogue and humour and everything are really reminiscent of a webcomic I read once called "A Redtail's Dream." I'm guessing that it might be a global thing, because after a bit of digging, I found that both comics come from Finland... But that's just a guess... whatever... Noneko's Sapphire Nuzlocke totally rocks.

I really need to mention the characters though. I know I've mentioned other comics having really distinct and believable characters, but I think that for that Noneko probably takes the cake. Firstly, the characters are all... really distinct and believable, of course, but they go many steps beyond that. They're almost lifelike! If the vast majority of them weren't Pokémon, I'd assume that they were heavily based on actual people. The banter between all of them is really great and the relationships between them are ASTOUNDING. Take Tortilla and Tatti for example. It's not a "friendly" relationship; they're often cold, sarcastic and snide to each other, which is generally rare enough in these comics, but it's a developing unfriendliness, not just a run of the mill "These-two-don't-like-each other" type thing. You COMPLETELY understand why they feel malice towards each other and you can sympathise and empathise for both of them. Tortilla was a cocky asshole picking on Tatti, but when she evolved, she started doing the same thing back and upstaging Tortilla as often as she could, making her seem like a real... bitch, for lack of a better word. And that's another thing about it, it doesn't rely on backstory at all to make you empathise with them. Sure enough, there's a bit of history here and there, but the characters convey their emotions so well, you don't need to know that their family were jerks or they're out for revenge or anything like that. Everyone is just there, and you feel like you've known them forever and that's really freaking special.

I wanted to draw Tatti (left) and Tortilla because they're my favourite characters in the comic. Again, not shaded because I'm freaking tired. But it looks cool regardless.
